The Iemma Government must re-establish exit interviews for Police, following revelations there are up to 80 vacancies in key criminal investigation squads, Acting Shadow Police Minister Greg Smith said today.

Shadow Attorney General Greg Smith SC today said the State Government’s proposed abolition of periodic detention in favour of so-called ‘community corrections orders’ continued the Iemma Government’s general softening in the area of law and order. 

Attorney General John Hatzistergos has bungled the isolated detention of jailed murderer and high risk prisoner Bassam Hamzy who could be released back into the general jail population, Shadow Justice Minister Greg Smith SC said today. 

Shadow Attorney General Greg Smith SC today described sentencing amendments dealing with proof of remorse as ‘fiddling around the edges’ and totally inadequate in dealing with the trauma suffered by family and friends of homicide victims.
